How challenges work in Fortnite
Fortnite challenges measure how your career stats grow while you play. Pick a Solo, Duos or Squads challenge, play regular matches in that mode, and we compare your stats from the start to the end.
Before you play
Link your account with Public Game Stats on
Fortnite hides your stats from outside services unless Public Game Stats is on, so we can only link an account whose stats are public. Keep it on while a challenge runs, or your result cannot be read.
- In Fortnite, open Settings, then Account and Privacy
- Under Gameplay Privacy, turn Public Game Stats on and save
- Link your account on Zenko with your Epic, PlayStation or Xbox name
Your account unlocks challenges at 50 Battle Royale matches, and any mode counts toward that. Then play 5 Solo, Duos or Squads sessions on a ladder and its challenges appear. Reload, Ranked and limited-time modes are not counted.
How it works
Pick a challenge
Choose Solo, Duos or Squads, each built from your recent matches in that mode. Your account needs 50 or more Battle Royale matches played first.
Play regular matches
Play as you normally would, in the mode your challenge names. If it names a number of matches, reach the target within that many.
We compare your stats
We read your career stats when you start and again while you play. What they gained in between is your result.
Get your result
Meet the target and credits are added to your balance. Miss it and the challenge ends as a loss.
Where your result comes from
Fortnite does not publish a record of each match. It keeps running totals for your account instead, such as eliminations, wins, top finishes and matches played, for each mode. We read those totals from your public game stats through a community Fortnite stats service, read-only. You never share a password, and we never change anything on your account.

What counts
Counts
- Regular Solo, Duos and Squads matches, in the mode your challenge names
- Matches you play after the challenge starts
- Eliminations, wins, top finishes and matches played in that mode
- Matches on your linked account, whatever device you play on
Doesn't count
- Ranked, Trios, Reload and other special playlists, which Fortnite reports separately
- Matches in another mode, such as Duos during a Solo challenge
- Matches played before the challenge starts
- Matches past your match limit, which end the challenge as a loss
When results appear
A win is recorded on its own once your stats show the target met, and Refresh progress lets you check sooner. Play your first match within 12 hours of starting, then finish inside the time limit shown on the challenge. Play no matches at all and it is cancelled, with any entry returned.
